In terms of office paper folders there are a lot of options. Our top pick for various office sizes, mail rooms, small businesses, and home users is the Horizon PF-P3110 Paper Folder. The machine has 2 fold plates so it can do the standard folds like a letter fold, C-fold, or a Z-fold. It’s very easy to use and reliable. This paper folder is available on our online store.
Horizon engineers and makes its products in Japan. We’ve been a Horizon dealer for many years with our partners at Standard Finishing. I’ve had the joy of touring the Horizon Factory near Lake Biwa just outside of Kyoto. They are an exceptional company, and their products reflect it.
A friction wheel system handles paper feeding. When you put a stack of paper into the feeder there’s a pair of rubber rollers that touch the top of the stack. These rollers pick up the sheets and pull them in very reliably. Other folders have air feeders but those are much more expensive. You only need an air feeder if you want to feed glossy coated papers.
Horizon PF-P3110 Paper Folder Features
The main features of this machine are all about making it useful, practical, and approachable. Horizon is an excellent manufacturer that pays a lot of attention to the features that matter. The setup and adjustment are very simple. Two main knobs on the machine’s front adjust the fold plates. Adjusting these knobs is how you set up the folder.
There are two main access areas on the machine that make it very easy to clear a jam. Let’s be honest, jams will happen from time to time. It’s not that big of a deal, you just have to get that paper out. On some models it can be very difficult to get access with your hands. Instead of being in trouble the design of the Horizon PF-P3110 Paper Folder has great access. Both fold plates slide out, and you can access the roller train through its dedicated access door.
On the delivery side of the machine there is an adjustable exit wheel. Having an exit wheel like this is a very important feature for a paper folder because folded pieces can nest. Nesting is when one sheet slides into the sheet before it. It’s very annoying since you must separate the nested sheets manually. However, with an exit wheel, you can position it to hold the folded sheet closed while the next one quickly lands on top of it.
Video of the Horizon PF-P3110
Check out this video of the Horizon PF-P3110 Paper Folder that I shot last week. I tried to give a good overview of the features and how to use it. In the video, I show how to open the access for the paper fold plates if you have some kind of paper jam. You can see the setup process where I pick a paper size, select a fold pattern, and then adjust my fold stops to match. This video should be helpful if you are considering one of these paper folders.
There are some other great paper folders from Horizon that are more advanced. If you have a lot of paper to fold or do some large fold jobs contact our sales team. There are many options for paper folding that have great features like air feeders, more fold plates, faster speeds, touch screen setup and more.
But if you just want a normal folder for folding regular paper this is the right choice. Horizon folders are very well built and will last forever. We have had the earlier version of this model in our office for almost 20 years and I'm not joking. We just wipe off the rollers every once in a while and that's it. They've updated the design a little bit since then but the PF-P3110 has the same core design that has worked forever.
